Placement Auditions
All new students must attend a Placement Audition to be assigned to the appropriate level. Students returning to the spring semester from the fall semester do not need to attend a placement audition unless interested in being evaluated for a promotion.  The Placement Audition consists of a short class, usually no more than an hour, where students will be asked to execute ballet, modern exercises, and phrases.  A jury of DIW instructors will adjudicate the audition.  The purpose of the audition is to place students in classes according to their age and technical capabilities.  For appropriate evaluation and class placement, students must come to the Placement audition prepared as follows:
Ladies are required to wear leotards, flesh colored tights, and ballet slippers.
Men are required to wear form fitting white t-shirts, ballet tights or jazz pants, and ballet slippers.
Long hair must be tightly secured away from the face, and off the back of the neck.
Students may not audition in baggy clothes.

Evaluations
Students will undergo evaluations each semester. All placement decisions are at the discretion of DIW faculty and are based on attitude, attendance, improvement, and skill.

Inclement Weather Policy
The studio will follow the Washington, DC government office schedule for school closings. DIW will make every effort to reschedule classes that are canceled due to inclement weather. DIW does not guarantee the rescheduling of cancelled classes. Students are always welcome to make up a class by taking a class of similar level offered at a different time or day.

Non-Discrimination Policy
DIW does not discriminate against any student based on race, color, national origin, or beliefs.
