The Community Introductory Dance Program

The Dance Institute of Washington’s Community Program (serving ages 6-16) is designed for young dancers with a recreational interest in dance and those who want the same dance disciplines taught in the Pre-Professional Program but are not ready to commit to the intense schedule and requirements of pre-professional training. Classes are offered in a range of dance forms for any student to explore. Classes offer a fun, enriching and nurturing environment for the exploration of dance as an art form. Students of all skill levels are welcome. Community students also get to participate in an end of semester performance to showcase all that they have learned during the semester.

What The Student Learns

Students receive high quality, level-appropriate instruction in a low-stress environment in the dance style of their choice. Reflecting the National Standards for Learning and Teaching Dance, DIW’s Community Program curriculum addresses performing, creating and responding to dance. Technical instruction emphasizes coordination, kinesthetic awareness, musicality and the development of personal style during performance. Additionally, a disciplined study of dance provides a healthy physical outlet and productive social environment for the development of young minds and bodies.
